UNDOF peacekeepers in the Golan Heights fled Syrian territory for the Israeli-controlled Golan after their positions were attacked by rebel forces, Al Jazeera reported.
It wasn’t clear from the report how many peacekeeping soldiers were pulled back to Israeli territory. Earlier in the day, the Philippine defense chief said that Filipino peacekeepers in the Golan Heights were attacked by Syrian rebels, who are also holding dozens of Fijian troops hostage.

Ok more from Twitter - so don't take this as gospel:
Irish troops engage Syrian rebels to free 3 dozen hostage UNDOF peacekeepers in the Golan. Basically the 1st foreign intervention in Syria.

Irish troops were part of rapid response force assigned to UNDOF. Operation coordinated with IDF, hostages brought to Israel.

Note to correspondents on UN Disengagement Observer Force peacekeepers
New York, 30 August 2014
The UN Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) reports that, early this morning, UN Position 69 was fired upon by armed elements. The Mission’s Force Reaction Group has been deployed to the position and all 32 Filipino personnel from this position have been extricated and are now safe.
UNDOF reports that armed elements also attacked UN Position 68 with mortar and heavy machine gun fire. The UN peacekeepers returned fire and prevented the attackers from entering the position. Position 68 is currently under fire, preventing the personnel from moving out.
We are still working towards the safe release of the detained 44 Fijian peacekeepers from Position 27.
There are no reported casualties amongst UN personnel.

In the early hours of Saturday 30 August members of the Irish 44th Infantry Group successfully conducted an operation to extract United Nations Disengagement Observation Force (UNDOF) troops from a UN Position that was compromised by Armed Elements in the Zone of Separation.
The Quick Reaction Force deployed to the position, secured a withdrawal route, and escorted the troops to a reinforced UN position.
In light of ongoing operations the 44th Infantry Group remain on high alert, prepared for further taskings from the Force Commander.
All Defence Forces personnel and equipment remain safe and accounted for.
The 44th Infantry Group and Defence Forces Headquarters continue to monitor the situation.
Reading between the lines then - they went through Israeli Golan territory to get back to a secure UN outpost in UNDOF territory?
Wonder if anyone who demanded we chuck out the Israeli ambassador, will reflect on why that would have been a terrible idea when we've got troops deployed with UNDOF & UNIFIL. (And trust me I'm not a fan of Israeli policies.)

Don't forget the ugly women who get rejected and then go on to be the most vocal of the anti-army groupTo close with and kill the enemy in all weather conditions, night and day and over any terrain
