      Well if the Examiner is to be believed.

      We are send 114 UNMOs as part of a Mech Inf unit and it is more about Syria than the Israeli/Syrian border.

        The R&C as amended today shows that 43 Inf Gp will have a Coy HQ, 2 x Mech Inf Pl, a Cav Troop, a Tpt section, an MP section, a CIS section, an Ord section and I dont remember seeing it but presumably an Eng and Med sections as well.

        All in for 114 pers.

        There may be some other elements in the logs trail as well but I was not concerned by them at the time so didn't pay attention to them.

          Where will we get the 2nd Mech inf Coy from?

          Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

              My guess. Irish commitment to UNIFIL is going to be greatly reduced at the next rotation.
              Most of the armour will not come home but will redeploy to UNDOF.
              By road from Tibnin to the Golan is no more than a few hours.
              The biggest obstacle will be getting it into Israel.
              The used to be 2 crossings one at Metullea in the east and one at Rosh Haniqra in the west.
              I believe that both are now closed but a request from the UN may get one of them open for a brief period.

                    That's on Mount Hermon so there is no roads.

                      The government might invest in the defence forces now that they are heading into the biggest melting pot in the wold. Does any one know when the troops will be heading off?

                        September.
                        "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

                          Winter in the Golans is no picnic.
                          Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
                          Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
                          The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
                          The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
                          The best lack all conviction, while the worst
                          Are full of passionate intensity.

                              Best of luck to everyone heading over, may they return home safely. Gonna be a tough one.
                              If at first you don't succeed, then call in an airstrike.
