  • If we are going down the civvy 4x4 car market, would a pickup type crew cab with covered cargo area fit the bill?

I'm thinking Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi L200 Double cab, Toyota HILUX, VW Amarok, Isuzu D-Max etc.
Assuming of course said vehicle has sufficient room in the rear seat for an adult. Many only have a seat suitable for a small child in a baby seat, or a double amputee..
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

    • The tender says must accomodate 4 DF personnel. Min height is 157.48cm which is probably what all vendors will use as a maximum!

Now if the tender specified said : must accomodate 4 DF personnel of a minimum height of 157.48cm and a maximum of 200cm with an approximate weight of 85kg each with all occupants wearing body armour, battlevests (fully laden), helmets"

Then they might get something that actually fits!

      • Obviously written by people who never sit in the back. I think the VW Amarokhas the biggest crewcab on the market so they probably wont get that

        • The Toyota Land Cruiser will replace the Pajero.
The first vehicles should be delivered before the end of the year.

          • Fantastic news. I heard lately that Mitsubishi have stopped making the Pajero. The land cruiser remains the best in the business. Ask any farmer.

Makes sense when you consider the AUV's are Land Cruisers also.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

The Irish Defence Forces (IDF) have confirmed an order for 280 new Toyota Land Cruisers, as the vehicle of choice for the IDF for the next four years.

                  • Will the Air Corps version be camouflaged on top, and painted sky blue underneath?
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
                    Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

Pretty sure they're 2.8l, 177bhp assuming they've gone for the 5 speed manual

                              • It's still a better engine than the 3 litre in the pajero.
We got one in work recently, replacing a pajero, much better pulling power. (Both automatics).
