    New Army enlisted SD's

The DF clothing committee are looking at upgrading the Army service dress. There is an online survey running on their page on IKON at the moment with pictures of the different options being considered and a user feedback survey that you can fill in and submit.Options include a stand collar with smaller collar badges(thumbs up).A smaller collar than at present with shirt and tie as previous..Different pocket designs.Different cuff designs and and two different types of pleats down the back of the tunic. Also it looks like the colour band for the peaked cap is being seriosuly considered. Merrion square was probably the trial.
The survey is open to anybody who can get access to IKON.

PS: The webpage is still in it's infancy but the idea is that when it is fully up and running it will contain news about new clothing items etc and provide a feedback portal for end users.About time.

The colour should also be looked at- one drop of rain affects the look of it, think of the Albert Reynolds GOH at his funeral . Maybe the DF should consider a darker green, the old RUC green would be ideal and as a brucie bonus it would piss the Shinners no end.

Please, please, please go for stand collar.

Shirt and tie looks shite and for the most part is never fully uniform as each tie ends up looking different. Stand collar would look much sharper.

Agree with Hedgie wrt to colour of the uniform. Something darker would be better.

While I am very bias I do believe the Royal Irish No 1 in piper green fits the bill to a T .

Good old LI and RGJ's have something similar.

Please don't go peaked hats!!!! Shite looking unless your in the Guards Reg and you slash the peak.

That's exactly the colour I was thinking of- nearly the same as the RUC.

As for headwear, we should go for slouch hats like the Irish Citizens Army and the Irish Volunteers in1916 wore. Imagine if it was in for 2016, it would be 2 fingers up to the tiocfaidh s and there gang.

I can see a uniform walt thread the likes of which has never been seen developing here

Personally, I would like to see something akin to 2 Cav's uniform for presidential escorts. The slouch hat would be very interesting, and a nice nod to the ICA.

    For reference,

Look at the peakers. They are just the inverse of the band on the cadets peakers.

The Motorcycle Escort uniform does look the part. Get rid of the bandolier and add some pockets and you'll have a nice uniform. The less white the better, gloves and belts as normal should be the only whites, no silly cap band.

Id hate to see a change in uniform colour. The current dark green, although its varies slightly with different materials and manufactures has been worn since the establishment of the DF and it was the same colour as the Volunteers uniforms. Its as much part of the DF's heritage as the cap badge and buttons.

Having seen the options, I'd be happy with the stand collar.

By no means perfect but better than the other two options and has a really old school look which I reckon will look the part come 2016 when the commemorations kick off.

The stand collar looks great (it'll probably be quite uncomfortable). The clip on tie would be very handy as opposed to that horrific yoke that we currently have. The flap that happens before an inspection when someones knot comes undone is always monumental.

Surely if you have a stand collar you no longer need the cream shirt and collar? Standard issue T shirt worn underneath?
