    • German Whitepaper on Defence

      German Armed Forces - Whitepaper

In future, the Bundeswehr will rely even more on multi-talented, specialised and highly qualified personnel.
In the long term, we must tap additional potential because technological progress and digitalisation will
require expertise that the Bundeswehr does not have, at least to the necessary extent. Extensive autonomy
will no longer be the guiding principle in personnel policy. Instead, permeability between the Bundeswehr
and industry will have to be increased. Exchange schemes between industry and the Bundeswehr which
facilitate cooperation with external personnel for a specific period of time are one way of meeting this
      challenge

      Analysis of the German Whitepaper

The recently released German defense white paper, or Weissbuch, represents a significant step forward in Germany’s ongoing transformation to a “normal”

Umm interesting, notwithstanding European inaction/leaderless regarding the Yugoslav 'breakup' in the 1990s for example, is this what the world needs now, another large/powerful country reasserting itself on the world stage? By acting unilaterally and 'leading actions' - especially if it now going to do so for its 'interests' (which tend to expand for larger nations).

I'm going to venture that some of its apparent political leadership in some European affairs have not always proved popular with other EU countries... e.g. previous EU 'expansion fatigue' - and never mind the more recent and divisive 'Migration Crises' and also for example, what are/were the German relationship with Ukraine like, and implications for similar situations if they had led proactively and unilaterally in actions/for their interests then?

          • This report highlights that the Curragh cannot really expand outside the current general camp area (it is a bit dated but still relevant):

Having said that there are a good few buildings that should be knocked and the sites built on (if it is legally allowed).

One thing is for sure there is nowhere near enough accommodation (ie beds) for a brigade (never mind an battalion). Or offices, stores, training accommodation etc.

                      That’s everyone’s evening’s reading sorted
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
                      Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

Four years in and 53 of 85 projects not started. Damning indictment of the department.

                              • How many of the "projects completed" had commenced before the publishing of the white paper?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
