hope its not as rough as ebola!
"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

        According to the Minister:
        - also looking at seconding additional personnel to Irish NGOs
        - also looking at contributing approx 5 personnel to British Army force in Sierra Leone

MEDEVACs of Irish citizens will be looked at on a case by case basis

Who has annoyed the BSM that much, then?
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
          Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

Any chance we could contribute a fully staffed and equipped field hospital or treatment centre as part of a joint civil military op....?

Would that not be a better spend of our overseas aid budget?

Only if the doctors and nurses come from the HSE

The DF don't have enough as it is

              (Neither do the HSE)

I'm sure the HSE would step up to the mark but maybe there are some doctors or nurses who are or Could be members of the reserve and would be interested in contributing. Some excellent people too in the Medical Corps who may be willing to help. Has anyone asked.....?

It's tiring hearing our piecemeal response being trumpeted as a significant contribution particularly when the personnel are going to be based in the embassy!

The fight against the disease is not in the embassy!

                    helicopters?

the Merlins on RFA Argus are having a big impact on the logs capability in SL - a pair of 139's would contribute significantly, they'd be very good at moving people about and letting the Merlins get on with the heavy lift.

                    comms people?

SL has a, err... basic comms infrastructure - it could probably do with a satelite based voice and data system to connect the distant jungle communities into the more developed areas where the doctors are.

                    medical people?

iirc SL has around one doctor to every 100,000 people. the equivilant of Ireland having 50 doctors... can you spare half a dozen?

Looks like we have a good example here of "Something must be done about this tragedy... but don't take anything away from me"
"On the plains of hesitation, bleach the bones of countless millions, who on the very dawn of victory, laid down to rest, and in resting died.

                      Never give up!!"

It's not like we're borrowing the money to throw at the latest problem in Africa, hopefully they have good craic at the embassy parties.
Everyone who's ever loved you was wrong.
