they received £14,492 in 2014, and £14,637 in 2015, an increase of just over 1%.

some specialist trades / Corps may differ as to when pay increases are awarded.
every soldier in the British Army unless already at the top of the ladder should receive 2 x pay increases per year, unless there is pay freeze and they will only receive one.

it wasn't an election year last year and we got pretty much the exact same deal - 1% across the board.
i've know some annual pay rises as high as 3.8% over the years, but this years rise is pretty much same as last years - so no difference because of the election at all.

Its worthwhile to consider though, for any potential recruit, given that under the new rules, anyone joining here will only have 15 years before its up or out. My understanding is your base life is a bit better than here. As a long term career your T&C seems to improve as you climb the ladder, while here it seems to plateau at SGT.For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

i think, for me - and i'm absolutely not trying to start some stupid fight over it - the swinger is the issue of Service Family Accommodation and the blocks/messes for single soldiers. being mobile (in my career i've worked in Berkshire, Larkhill, Germany, Plymouth, London, Shrivenham, Thirsk, Larkhill, and Catterick), the idea of having to sort out new accommodation for my family every few years would be a game-stopper.
we don't use it at the moment - we decided to live somewhere we wanted to live, send the kids to school there and put down roots, and i'll just have to commute/stay in the mess - but uptil that point it was an absolute requirement, and if it wasn't in place i would have left by 28.
