Just read on bookface that families of enlisted will not be allowed down to wave off loved ones on LE WBY in haulbowline

    reason: security for Kehoe

Real reason (guess): afraid of a WPDF protest aimed at Kehoe.
"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

He's a bit thick - by not allowing people in to say goodbye at a difficult time for families, for some of whom this is their first time being separated for this length, they are effectively inviting protest - my guess is that there will most likely BE a protest at the gates possibly blocking Kehoe OUT of the base unless he arrives by chopper.

He could try the reverse of what Higgins did to avoid the protesters on Cobh, he came across from the base, Kehoe could go the other way if he's that desperate to avoid the people. But yeah given the strain this will put on families (given it's still a relatively new demand) it's inviting issues, course he doesn't have to answer any Daíl questions for the summer.

Meh - apparently it was a miscommunication according to the group in question - nobody will be nor was any person going to be, prevented from coming down, torches and pitchforks to be returned to the armoury by 131645ZJUL17

Well he has stated on dail record that a member of the DF has never approached him to complain about the conditions. All that could change.
Well, there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that Neil will be taking over both branches, and some of you will lose your jobs. Those of you who are kept on will have to relocate to Swindon, if you wanna stay. I know, gutting. On a more positive note, the good news is, I've been promoted, so... every cloud. You're still thinking about the bad news aren't you?

Would that depend on the level engagement with Sophia's command before now, whether it's something that's been planned/discussed, or is it only going to be now that the NS engages and gets tasked? I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Would we be extending our operations to that point or would we still end at around the usual timeframe?

Sorry I didn't mean the timeframe of Sophia, what I meant was are we looking at keeping a hull rotated to the Med into December now?

I look forward to the inevitability of Lisa Chambers becoming minister for defence. She is possibly the most impressive performer in that party who led us into the last recession.

As for Mr O Snodaigh.... His party workers collected information on the movements of Dail officials, another was responsible for a murder in 2005. His wife threatened gardai that they would be in trouble, after they arrested her sister for a Public order offence. And of course there is the unexplained €50000 worth of printer ink used in one year. His opinions mean nothing to me. Indeed the opinions of SF IRA on any defence matter means nothing to me.

+1. SF are ambulance chasing, populist manipulators who appeal to the lowest common denominator and will do or say anything to get into power and then do the same to keep it.
Murdering, thieving scum.Elected by a disenfranchised few who are too myopic to see past their own issues and look at the past(and sometimes present) of their so called "working class hero's".
"Let us be clear about three facts:First of all.All battles and all wars are won in the end by the Infantryman.Secondly the Infantryman bears the brunt of the fighting, his casualties are heavier and he suffers greater extremes of fatigue and discomfort than the other arms.Thirdly, the art of the Infantryman is less stereotyped and harder to acquire than that of any other arm".

I remember hearing the ships were designed to carry three times their crew if necessary. Where on a p21 class do you fit 400 plus people?

Wow I wouldn't have thought you could fit that many on them to be honest. Must have been standing room only.

I see on Spanish Coastguard page one of their Helicopters airlifted an injured crewman from WB Yeats.

I'm sure they all knew what they were doing, and this is in no way a criticism (I don't know much about aeromed!), but I was very surprised that the casualty was not put in a lifejacket before being put in the basket and winched.

Does anybody know what's the rationale behind it?

Anyway, best wishes to the chap and I hope he recovers soon.
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
    Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.
