I see on the Navy's Facebook that Niamh is heading home, any word on who might be going next and when?

Nobody this side of Christmas anyway.
German 1: Private Schnutz, I have bad news for you.
German 2: Private? I am a general!

"No, they're trying to fly the tank"
2018 participation in Op Sophia being brought to Cabinet today
According to the Junior Minister on Twitter, it is 2 vessels 16 weeks concurrently from April
There's a new tweet, it's consecutively not concurrently:

The Irish Examiner expects deployment of two Naval Ships to the Mediterranean commencing with LE Samuel Beckett in April 2018 for 16 weeks and to be followed by LE James Joyce for a further 16 weeks. It indicates an Irish Naval attachment to OP. Sophia for 32 weeks- April to November.
15th April 2018 saw the P61 passing Roches Point at about 1145 heading to join OP SOPHIA in Eastern Mediterranean Area. The weather was moderate but accentuated the consequences of low freeboard on the maindecks. Best wishes to all for a good mission and safe return.
L.E. Samuel Beckett arrived at the Port of Catania (Sicily) at 9.04 local time.

If migrants are picked up by naval or any vessel, then transferred to another vessel for transport to a place of refuge, then there must remain a collective responsibility until an outcome has been reached. The only way to process unwanted migrants is to send them back, with cash support, to their countries of origin but not to Libya.
That appears to be the case. Spain has agreed to take this ship and its cargo. It does look bad for the operation going forward.

Op Sophia's mandate:
"EUNAVFOR MED Operation Sophia is the EU naval operation disrupting the business model of migrant smugglers and human traffickers in the Southern Central Mediterranean. The operation has two supporting tasks: training the Libyan Coastguard and Navy and contributing to the implementation of the UN arms embargo on the high seas off the coast of Libya in accordance with UNSCR 2292 (2016) and 2357 (2017)"
Since this does not include SAR or specifically embarking migrants, it should have very little effect on the mission.
It would have impacted on the previous Irish OP PONTUS or the Italian mission OP Mare Sicuro as they were SAR missions.
