    Cue countless opinion pieces about how its our fault those kids and their mother died. Our politicians see the headlines and immediately think "O s*#t, we might actually lose votes now that people are noticing that we've being doing sweet f*#k all to stop this crisis" and then announce we will accept tens of thousands more refugees no matter what state our economy is in to provide for them, thus encouraging hundreds of thousands more migrants to try and get themselves killed crossing the Med and repeating the whole cycle. This thing is never going to end...
    Couldn't agree more with you.

    The family were from the area of the Turkish / Syrian border. Their town Kobani was the scene of fierce fighting, so the father moved them the short distance across the border to Turkey. This was a sensible and prudent move.
    The family applied for Canada and were turned down. They were living around the area of Bodrum. Just in case people think this is a war zone, it's not. It's a tourist resort. The only fighting in Bodrum is over large breasted Scandanavian old dears.

    The father decided that he would would leave and bring the family to Germany because Angela ****ing Merkel and zillions of do gooders said we will accept everyone.

    The father paid 10,000 dollars (5x 2,000 dollars) to people smugglers to bring him and his family to Kos so he could then go to Germany.

    Let's get this one clear. The father put his children and his wife into an overloaded boat a tiny boat the likes you would get in Aldi and set out in darkness..

    Sadly and it is the saddest thing, the poor little lad, his poor little sister and their poor mammy drowned when a wave toppled the overloaded boat.

    The father is a murdering prick.

    Would you put your 3 year old son in an overloaded Aldi boat in the middle of the night. If you say yes- then your a prick as well.

    Let's not pretend this was a Dunkirk type scenario where they were directly escaping a conflict- they were escaping a tourist resort in a peaceful country.

    Until murdering pricks like the father and the people smugglers are dealt with- I genuinely fear more and more innocent kids will wash up on beaches.
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

      Indeed they were safe until he decided to move. The feeling I had was it might have bee a media moment gone wrong. Escaping from a tourist resort is an apt description. Angela's reactions are also geared to building up the German population with up to 500,000 selected migrants a year. Their own birth rates are plummeting and causing future pension shortfalls unless they increase the numbers of those working. Good for the Syrians and good for Germany!

            I assume if it was his wish to return home then Turkey would have facilitated that.

            I haven't seen any statistics but I would guess able bodied men are more likely than women or children to survive going into the water at sea. Is that not why women and children are prioritised for rescue?

            You might question his wisdom in putting to sea in a flimsy craft to attempt to migrate/escape but he is not alone and many many others have been successful.
            My question related to the speed and almost staged managed aspects of the tragedy.Escaping from safety was one aspect. There is now news that the French Consul in That part of Turkey may have been selling inflatable craft to migrants leading to unsuitable craft putting to sea. A child would know that a blow up boat is not meant for voyaging. The French Government are dealing with the female Consul. By the way moments after the incident he was photographed phoning on his Iphone -to whom or from whom was the call being made? he must have family still in Kobani and it seems it was safe to return.

              • Google " French Consul selling Inflatables". She has a shop in Bodrum and was filmed selling Inflatables and life jackets to Syrian migrants for passage to Lesbos etc. She is Francoise Olcay. Selling the life jackets is acceptable to me, SOLAS and all that, but the inflatable craft for the high seas was contributing to hazarding migrant lives.

                  Back to the Mediterranean! The LE Niamh is in Range on AIS and is approaching Catania in Sicily this AM. More migrants?

                  • Interesting piece on I assume, sane people taking to sea in unsuitable craft but nonetheless willing to take the risk, and pay for it ....

                    You'll understand their journey when you walk in their shoes ....

                      Hi Ancient,

                      I go to Germany fairly regularly. (Have German relatives) Their birth rate is declining fair enough but the reason they "need" more workers is simply that all the Pension "Industry" is bankrupt. It will collapse without an ever increasing "cash flow" of new entrants and guess what? The "Pension Funds" are "Too Big To Fail" just like the Banks......Ponzi scheme.

                      • Niamh has carried out one rescue already today and is heading for another now:
                        The LE Niamh has rescued 124 people from a rubber boat in the Mediterranean this morning - and is now on its way to a second rescue operation.

                          The Irish Navy are now putting the figure rescued at 500+. I see the bow of the inflatable was fully collapsed in one case. This mode of transport seems to be a one way ticket, be rescued or be drowned. The Navy figure for migrants landed in Italian territory now exceeds 7000. This exodus must be ended by concerted action in the countries of origin and unrest. In the long run it is unsupportable to open all borders creating a siphoning effect.

                            • L.E. Niamh departed port of Messina @18.57. Not that anyone cares, too busy grinding their own personal axes.
                              For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
