SBAs (as we called them in yonder years) not counted as medics, or just a reporter mix-up/lack of knowledge? Or are army/AC medics trained to more advanced levels (e.g. paramedic qualified)?

Obviously understand if this cannot be answered due to OPSEC.
They are in addition to the SBAs do to the nature of the op

    • many, if not most medics nowadays are trained to paramedic or EMT level, some have advanced paramedic courses completed also (a few in army, one in NS and not sure about AC).

the old 3 star medic is being phased out in favour of these or the combat medical technician (can't remeber exact DF title) qualification.

      • The UCC Diploma in Military Medical Care gives a EMT qualification.

Then there is the modularised Military First Responders course (that everyone needs to do a module of) which includes CFR and EFR.

          • In the early hours of this morning, 'somewhere in the Western Mediterranean', L.E. NIAMH and L.E. SAMUEL BECKETT met at an RV and tranferred equipment and key personnel. They then exchanged ceremonial salutes and proceeded on their respective routes.
L.E. NIAMH is expected back at the Naval Base this Friday.

For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

It seems SHE relocated to Valletta, Malta yesterday. It was a wet breezey day on the harbour camera. OOps, just checked she is gone this morning at 0915hrs irish time.
                    News later maybe?

In Naval terms there is always a reason. Maybe an Italian briefing and pick up an Italian Liaison Officer. It is an Italian directed effort and we are supplying our assets in theater. Valletta is a base of convenience as pointed out by Medsailor. All "Good to go" assists really.

                          • Thanks, have all the missions carried an Italian liaison on board?

At 3a.m. 5th October LE Samuel Beckett was directed to an area North West of Tripoli and rescued 247 souls from a wooden boat. Good luck to our crew and well done once more.

Honestly, wouldn't know the answer to that one. We're just assisting as requested.
