    Ironically all the complaints and coverage about the swearing on the show will create a bit of controversy which should mean more people view it. More viewers could hopefully lead to more shows about the DF.

      No matter how much people like sausages, If people saw from start to finish how sausages are made then most would be turned off them..

      Likewise there is no benefit to joe public to see how a soldier is made. In fact it's detrimental to the whole process.

      Don't believe me- ask any of the training staff for current or future recruit platoons.
      Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
      Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
      The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
      The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
      The best lack all conviction, while the worst
      Are full of passionate intensity.

It was ironic that the recruits rooms were spotless compared to the platoon office which was visibly scruffy..... I was watching last night in the company of a firefighter who had a few scathing things to say about the assistance being given to recruits who were struggling with the platoon running.....some of it is just bigged up for the cameras and the drama queens of the Cav, of course.
          These days recruits are more lippy when they turn up, and that has to be knocked out of them, maybe turning out there lockers is about teaching them to bite their lip,??

            A mini poll on thejournal.ie with well over 8,000 votes so far is a good indicator of public opinion.

            The new RTÉ documentary showed behind the scenes footage of Irish recruits being put through their paces. What did you make of it?

              And the Journal is usually full of crackpots.
              For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

                      I wonder if they cut out any footage of relatives impaling themselves on a bayonet in the rush to hug their loved one?

                          The road from the Glen to the Curragh. Best covered in a vehicle of some sort. Preferably not on foot. Much nicer when in seen from the turret of an AFV.
