  • The Russians in Syria

Can't see a thread on this...if there is already please ignore.

This has the potential to go tits up massively.

The US and Russian military are to hold talks "as soon as possible" to avoid their forces clashing in Syria following Moscow's air attacks on Wednesday.

As the man on ITN news has just said 'Its all a bit of a mess isn't it'...

Pull the DF out of the Golan Heights. Syria isn't the place for the UN anymore.

This is why intervention by proxy doesn't work. The West ****ed up by sitting on their hands and Putin is cleaning up big time at home and on the world stage.

So they've been bombing US trained and backed Free Syrian Army rebels.

Now where does that leave the US?

This timeline is interesting reading -

Russian jets bomb rebel positions in Syria including rural areas near the north-western town of Jisr al-Shughour, a day after launching air strikes. Follow latest developments here

I'm sure they have Danno but Putin seems to be sticking it to them by attacking the US allies in the region - this blokes angle is interesting...

We'll see if hes right - the US (and UK etc) will use this as the opportunity to exit stage left.

              Or.....

I can see this escalating very quickly! With Russian, RAF and USAF planes flying in close proximity over Syria, some plane is bound to get shot down by a pilot with an itchy trigger finger. And what then? A retalitory strike? The Russian Air Force is backing Bashar Al-Assad by bombing rebels, rebels who are backed by the US and Britain. So, indirectly, the Russian Air Force is bombing the US and Britain? While the US and British forces and bombing Bashar Al-Assad`s forces. Sounds a bit like the Korean War and the Vietnam War, just without the use of ground troops no?

From what has been previously reported, Vlad must have some ****ing amazing ISTAR assets to find the 5 remaining US backed rebels who havent already been decimated or flogged their weapons to to Al Nusra.

Killing US backed rebels or not (as being reported now) this is still a huge game changer and an embarrassment for the US.

A Russian 3 Star General arrives into a US Ops room in Bagdad and tells them to clear the airspace as they will be setting to work in one hour...

You have to admire their balls...or worry at their intentions...

Russians are there to support what they see as the legitimate Syrian Government. Not going to comment on that part, but the US and western allies made a total mess in the Middle East with the Arab Spring. If anything, getting rid of the Gaddafi, Hussein and attempting to get rid of Assad has destabilised the region massively and the consequences will not be fully seen for years to come. The Russians, and Vlad in particular may not be popular in the West presently, but they've put their money where their mouth is, and are taking the fight to terrorists(one mans freedom fighter is another mans terrorist after all) in Syria.
What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.

I don't like the idea of the US and Russia firing weapons anywhere near each other.

Wasn't there a story from the Balkans where the Russians seized an airport and a US General ordered a British unit to take the airfield back "with force if necessary". British Commander refused to follow the order fearing his actions would be misinterpreted and they'd end up shooting at each other.

Or am I just talking through my arse again? Could've sworn I read it somewhere
