    'scuse the back seat moding but the OP is asking about the Irish Defence Forces chaps. Might be an idea to keep it on topic lest we confuse answer for him.

    J3JO long story short. EU Citizen = No problem. Prior military experience does not transfer though, it will benefit you in the interview and in training but will not reflect in your starting grade.

        It isn't that open.
        They have to speak English as a first language

          OP, I'm a non Irish EU citizen and got in no bother. But just so you know, if you get in and they gauge your military experience by asking you what the "colours of the army" are, Khaki is not one of them. Trust me. I was as surprised as you are now.
