Given that the Clyde is the youngest of the class, it must have taken a pounding as it is going while the Tyne which is the oldest of the class is not scheduled for disposal in the next 5 years. Severn goes this year with Clyde and Mersey in 2 years. Normally you would keep the youngest, more capable vessel if you had the choice.
Then again the Falkland islands patrol is not easy, especially with upto 300 sea days per year.
Would be interesting to see what the cost of the River class would be fitted with the Bofors and OTO from our retiring hulls. Clyde with the 57, and Severn/Mersey with the 76's.
Their Thai sister ship HTMS Krabi has a 76 forward.

If you have a 57mm or 76mm it isn't just a self contained rotating turret! There is a shell hoist to the magazine below decks. The RN 30mm just sits on (I assume reinforced) deck.
Really, with the Rivers, the time for buying was when the three T and T Amazonas were being flogged by BAE.
At that time we had more cash, and the case could have been made for them, rather than wait for our own builds, the fact that the Navy didn't speaks volumes.
So, not having bought the Amazonas, theres a snowballs chance we be buying the RN cast offs.

They were considered, but the extra cost to bring them suitable for our use would have added significantly to the cost, and the contract had already been signed for P61.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

And any protection measures for the magazine that wouldn't be in the Rivers, not too mention where whatever is currently under the 30mm ends up needing to go, from memory isn't the Krabi a couple of hundred tons heavier than the Batch 1 rivers?

Tyne has been set up to take over MCM / Dive duties in the interim period while some of the Hunts are off line. The Batch 1's may have been capable of 300 sea days per year but have never been funded or tasked to do that. The fleet of four has averaged about 230 odd. With a refit these vessels will get a cost conscious Navy a few more years service in a EEZ constabulary role.
En Suite cabins!! And we thought our setup was good aboard ship! Take notes whoever is designing the next Irish Naval Vessel.
Great to see the marines getting the old mess decks. Much better use of space.

76 mm Sovraponte - is exactly that. Just mounted on deck.
