Fire Brigade were out on the ground in 1916 so they would be entitled

    • Lol some people were out on the ground a hundred years ago but none of the medal recipients were!

With the exception of Dublin Fire Brigade, none of the other organisations existed for decades after the Rising.

Bandwagoning making a Civil Defence, or other organisation, medal in my opinion.

DF (and fire brigade) have a direct link and heritage to the Rising, none of the others have and that was part of the reasoning of the medal to commemorate that link.

There already has been a DFB 1916 centenary badge issued:

          • that pin was only limited to personnel who took part in the 1916 parade itself and wear of it on uniform is subjected to restrictions.

It is a reproduction of the cap badge issued to Dublin Fire Brigade in 1916.

it's not a "one for everybody in the audience" piece and the idea of a medal for same was rejected.

Yes, I'm aware of both the provenance and the conditions attached (conditions which might usefully have been applied to the DF as well, so that shirkers who cried off 1916 parades and such don't get one).

                      • http://www.irishfreemedal.ie/ The whole 1916-2016 medal concept seems to have gotten dumbed down with a householders issue.

Any Garda Reserve who put in the required number of hours for the year is entitled to a medal.
