Besides, there's no doubt in my mind there will be a mingi medal issued by the associations anyway because so many of them feel hard done by, over not being given the official one.

Defence Forces awarded medals for 1916 centenary role
All members who served in 2016 will receive the medal in the coming weeks
The presentations are being made to select representatives at Dublin Castle by President Michael D Higgins
The centenary medals are in recognition of the role played by soldiers, sailors and air corps personnel in 1916 commemorative events
Representatives of the Defence Forces and Reserve Defence Forces have been presented with a specially commissioned medal to mark their role in the 2016 centenary year.
The presentations were made at Dublin Castle by President Michael D Higgins and a number of Government ministers.
The centenary medals are in recognition of the role played by soldiers, sailors and air corps personnel in 1916 commemorative events this year.
All members who served in 2016 will receive the medal in the coming weeks.
President Higgins said the medals are a fitting and well deserved tribute on behalf of the people of Ireland.
Awarding the medals to selected representatives, Mr Higgins praised their work at home and abroad this year.
He said their work in humanitarian and peacekeeping was an act of global citizenship that had enhanced the reputation of the country.

Well done to everyone who was awarded the Medal today, and to those still about to get it. It looks a really nice medal.
Quick question if a lad joined as a recruit and still hasn't passed out ( both P and R DF ), would he be awarded the medal?Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Haven't seen the General Staff wear them among their collection of medals on recent high profile events, even after having being issued them!!??"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
