During the 70s while the RAF F4s carried 'drop tanks' it was a career killer to ever drop them.... or you had better have a fantastic reason to do so.

Time for another break I think......
Congratulations to the @Royalairforce who are celebrating their 100 year anniversary today. The Irish Air Corps continues to enjoy close working relationships with our friends in the RAF and wish them another 100 years of safe military aviation. #RAF100 pic.twitter.com/xsz0D5sYVJ

Nice pic.
Can't say I can recall another picture of a mixed IAC/RAF formation... although I've heard a few tales.
Air Corps Alouettes and RAF Westland Whirlwind
AC AW139s were doing fire fighting in NI today
And if they did it tonight at midnight over certain areas it would be an absolute hoot.
Could you imagine it?
Billy starts the fire after spending weeks building it and guarding it and going to all the trouble of climbing to the top of it to place a tricolour at the top. Two seconds later the AC swoop in and waterbomb the pyre with a Bambi bucket. Could you picture the look on his face???
(PS: No probs with our neighbours building bonfires.I DO have a problem with ANY nations flag being burned.Especially mine.)

"Let us be clear about three facts:First of all.All battles and all wars are won in the end by the Infantryman.Secondly the Infantryman bears the brunt of the fighting, his casualties are heavier and he suffers greater extremes of fatigue and discomfort than the other arms.Thirdly, the art of the Infantryman is less stereotyped and harder to acquire than that of any other arm".

He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."
Right add bomfires to the list of things not to order from East Belfast.
I see the Air Corps have 2 over in the UK for RIAT, the photo shows 1 with the fuel tanks, do we still only have 1 set or have we bought the ones for the whole fleet?

Only one set and one aircraft plumbed so far!
Then why, pray tell, were they previously pictured on 269 and are on 260 in this picture?
FWIW, I believe an IAC tech on here previously explained that all the PC-9st were plumbed for external tanks.
As an aside, what scenario would require 8 sets of external fuel tanks?

OP FLEG
Thats the highly classified Brigade Level plan to invade Northern Ireland.
It involves a heavily air supported push of MOWAGS up the M1 motorway; straight into Belfast where Gerry Adams is currently not sleeping to well due to loud bangs.
Arlene Foster (like any good Unionist as republican propaganda has always said) has been bought off by the continued promise of a UK state pension as the Irish one is, well, simply shoite…
Rumour has it that the Lads hope to be back in Dublin for tea and medals by next Wednesday.
We'll see how that plays out![]()

All our PC9's are plumbed for external fuel tanks.
Excuse my ignorance but would someone please tell me why would one PC9 need to be fitted with fuel tanks and the other not?
Perhaps one flies direct, while the other stops off to refuel along the way. If the 2nd is weather delayed, at least one aircraft will make the show. The question is did both arrive together? Fairford has quite a queue of arriving aircraft for up to 3 days before the main show, usually at 10 minute intervals. Miss your slot and you'll have to divert to an alternate until they are ready for you.
German 1: Private Schnutz, I have bad news for you.
German 2: Private? I am a general!
German 1: That is the bad news.
Why then did only one have tanks while the other was clean? Surely underwing gun and rocket pods would have completed the picture?

They are really napalm tanks as part of a BREXIT contingency or water bombs for fire fighting

Because gun and rocket pods are not a new addition to IAC PC-9's.
Secondly, there is diplomatic protocol which is has to be respected. Submitting a request to carry weapons pods, regardless of whether they contain any ordnance or not, is a completely different kettle of fish than underwing fuel tanks.
