6 x PC9s were over enniscorthy today for the events there in the more rebellious county.

Well done to all concerned ...pilots, aircrews and ground crews! Great to see the smoke generators in use!

Is it the frst time AC aircraft have used smoke generators?
...or do I recall an AC heli using one at an air show?

A Gazelle had a smoke generator fitted before.

Gazelles had smoke strapped on the landing frame, easily done, not sure where they were located on the PC9?

The gazelle had smoke grenades attached to the landing gear.

No t'was a display for an open day, a "forced" landing followed by a "rescue" by ARW fast roping from an AIII. Was very well done.

The smoke generators on the PC9s are professional smoke tank kits done at the factory. They have spray nozzles in the right hand (custom) exhaust stack. Trialled on 264. Kit is designed to be easily removed and replaced in baggage bay.

Spoke to the AC officer on the ground yesterday responsible for the timing of the flyover - he told me that on 2 of the PC9s , during the second flyover, the smoke failed as nozzles got bunged up due to thickness of particles used in the first run. still it was fantastic, especially the helis - maintaining formation whilst "pointing" into a 60kph crosswind on way over o connell bridge. the pod camera fitted to the AC EC135 provided the most amazing footage too.well done to all elements of the defence forces over the last weekend. on a personal note, proud to have been involved in one of easter mondays commemorations AND glad that i didn't need to use 10 days annual leave to get ready

"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

Interesting article on the US light attack program, featuring the PC-9's American cousin:
In mid-2015, after a bruising battle on Capitol Hill over the future of close air support, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh directed exploration of a future attack aircraft, notionally designated A-X. Up until then, there had been no equivalent to the A-X program that developed the A-10...

The AT-6C fuel consumption at JEFX 10 averaged around 350 pounds per hour for all phases of flight. The A-29 uses the same engine with a different prop, and has demonstrated similar economy.

By comparison, an F-15E will use 390 pounds of fuel in six minutes at idle.
                          Erk.

the town voted to change the name to "Truth..." after seeing the popularity of a game show on TV..........one thing not pointed out about the A29's combat record is the number of shootdowns of drug running aircraft......what is also characteristic of US procurement is the willingness of competitors to go to litigation if they lose.
