  • Defence Spending

EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told the Prague defence and security conference on Friday that the EU was spending on average €27,000 (£24,000; $30,000) per soldier on equipment and research, whereas the US was spending €108,000.

Anybody calculate how much we are spending?

The capital expenditure ceiling on defence in the last budget was €74 million. The capital expenditure is what's spent on barracks, equipment, weapons, vehicles, aircraft, ships etc etc.
With a strength ceiling of 9,500 personnel, your talking about €7,789 per soldier.

If anybody has a copy of the more detailed Defence budget for 2017 (Vote 36) they could get a more accurate figure.
