I'll take two hover tanks while you're at it.
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Why does the word "Nimrod" spring to mind...
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
      Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

I can see it now - the RAF strip out the secret squirrel sensors and the Sentinels arrive in Bal to great fanfare, to serve out their days as ministerial transports.

Is the reason they are being chopped not that they are horrendously expensive to operate...

Have I mentioned recently that the RAF are hotel dwelling chippy civvy in uniform cnuts?

Well, that is what I am wondering. according to wikipedia opcost is ~55 M£/a which is not cheap but for this capability would also be OK methinks. It would give Ireland a unique capability to contribute to international and EU ops at a fraction of the cost of acquiring fighters. And yes I am aware that this is not the same thing

As pointed out that would require the UK to leave all the high end gadgets in the plane...

I for one am sold. #Bargain alert.

A completely unique orphan aircraft type with a spare parts supply chain so complex you'd need a degree in forensic accounting and a compass to navigate, along with a blank cheque book to fund.

                        What's not to like?
