Due to recent issues which have led to Forum staff having to moderate and edit posts for OPSEC reasons a few trends have become apparent.

1/ It seems unclear to some posters what exactly can and cannot be posted with regards OPSEC

2/ When posters breach OPSEC in the opinion of the forum staff and are subsequently moderated they seem to think it is ok to debate the forum staff as to why their post was edited etc.

So,for the guidance of all concerned a few pointers.

A/ First and foremost lets recap on article 4 of the Forum rules.

" Please note that any comment relating to your military service in the Irish Defence Forces that is in breach of military regulations or Official Secrets Act 1963, or considered by Admin/Moderators to be of a militarily sensitive nature, will result in the immediate removal of the comment and possible disciplinary action by Admin/Moderators and may result in disciplinary action by the military authorities against the author of such comments. It should also be noted that this includes the posting of information which may compromise the security of military installations which is also forbidden".

So.Fairly cut and dried. The Forum staff make the call and can edit any comment at any time without recourse to the OP. If the issue is borderline forum staff usually consult one another and a final decision take as to what is kosher or not.

B/ An example of good and bad posting RE OPSEC is as follows.

" The DF has purchased 24 Armoured utility Vehicles".( Good: Public domain. No specifics)
" The AUV is a Toyota Landcruiser fitted with a winch and an armoured cab" (Good: No compromise of type of armour or what can defeat it and a winch is not operationally sensitive)
" The AUV will be used overseas by the DF to enhance force protection"(Again Good as it is a general comment and doesn't give specifics)
" X amount of AUV's will be sent to X and the rest sent to y"(BAD: Gives specific locations of where they are to be used.An aggressor can use that info to factor into their plans what they now need to ambush an Irish Convoy
" Each AUV will be fitted with X weapon system( Borderline) and x amount of ammo is usually carried(BAD: Now a potential aggressor knows how long we can stay in the fight should it come to it before they can overrun us or press their attack).

So.In short if you are going to comment or post.Keep it general with regards capabilities.DO NOT post specifics and don't try to debate the staff when it comes to this subject as the MODS have the final say.
YOU may think your comment is OK and harmless but you may inadvertently put Irish Personnel at risk with your comment despite your best intentions.

Happy posting and let's keep our people safe.
