  • Inspector General of the DF

Section 14 of the Defence Acts, allows the Government to create the appointment of Inspector General of the Defence Forces and assign whatever duties as they see fit.

They must be a PDF officer and is appointed by the President.

The only time I ever heard that it was used was when Eoin O’Duffy was appointed after the Army Mutiny in 1924 (obviously under different legislation)

    Any others?

Said appointment would need legislative teeth, for it to be of any use
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

It is badly needed with an all PDF staff. The adequacy of the PDF needs assessment as we have very little capability to detect and adequately deal with treats at distances outside of 7/10 kilometers. We are largely an eye-ball PDF requiring to close to line-of -sight with some show equipments for one off demos or tasks. We are also an island nation where coastal Defence is history and the word SEA rarely appears in Defence requirements. We do NOT match any similar sized country in the EU and must look at Defence in Depth and adequate close air and Naval supports.
