Section 14 of the Defence Acts, allows the Government to create the appointment of Inspector General of the Defence Forces and assign whatever duties as they see fit.
They must be a PDF officer and is appointed by the President.
The only time I ever heard that it was used was when Eoin O’Duffy was appointed after the Army Mutiny in 1924 (obviously under different legislation)
Any others?
