      I hear NZ has it worse, People are leaving the NZ navy to join the RAN.
      It will be interesting to see what solutions either navy comes up with to address this, and does it transfer here.
      For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

        They are not leaving the RNZN for Australia. It is very difficult to join the RAN as a non Australian citizen. The RNZN muster has been pretty stable recently. Yes about 5-6 years ago a few left for the then West Australian mining boom which also targeted defence personnel in both countries.

        What this ABC report fails to mention is that it takes about 5-7 years to train and develop an Anzac crew to OLOC because of a range of engineering and warfare specialities.

          Also the RAN is currently putting all its ANZAC though another, mid-life, upgrade, the first ship being completed late last year. So Perth will be in the queue for that.

              Ryanair?
              'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
              'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
              Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
              He died that's all. It was his unlucky night.

                And the not inconsiderable effort in bring the three Hobarts into service is also a factor is another mitigating aspect.
