Unfortunately there are more. BMW should stop using the customer as the ultimate quality control checker and do proper R & D given the big money the machines cost.

You may be an expert in googling but you know sfa about motorcycles. The F800 GT has a completely different engine to the F800s of the years mentioned and the F800ST.
Everything gets a recall, if you search long enough. By your reasoning, no bike is worthy.
Read this and pick a model that has not been recalled in the last 24 months please. The F800GT was introduced in March 2013.

The Deauville 650 was famous for fuel pumps burning out. The Deauville 700 required valve clearance checks every 4000 miles. The Yamaha FJR1300 may suffer rear suspension failure if the pivots are not greased regularly, something only possible when the wheel and exhaust are removed. The St1100 Pan European suffers corrosion on the rear swingarm which may lead to total collapse.
Yet all of these types are used throughout europe as police bikes, and on retirement from police service, most enter life as emergency blood bikes.
Toyota recalls have been a monthly occurrence of late.

A problematic leisure bike might be ok to tolerate if the net effect is to stop somebody getting down to Laragh of a fine Sunday morning for coffee. Not good enough for a service bike that is expected to be relied on to deal with critical situations where reaction time counts.

A problematic leisure bike might be ok to tolerate if the net effect is to stop somebody getting down to Laragh of a fine Sunday morning for coffee. Not good enough for a service bike that is expected to be relied on to deal with critical situations where reaction time counts.

There is a very good reason that every EOH will have spare bikes close by.

The Deauvilles will be 10 years old next year so will be sold off and replaced with something else as they're not made anymore. Rumour is a BMW will replace them but I'll believe it when I see it - given the cost per bike. Shaft drive is preferable due to the lower maintenance costs and ease of cleaning prior to an EOH

Yup. Cant believe Honda stopped making the Deauville and "replaced" it with the NC700x which is chain drive and not a mid-range tourer. They should have stockpiled a fleet of them like the UK cops in the 70's with the Rover SD1

BMW was bike put forward after testing. Think biggest descrepeny after price is the engine size. The 1200RT was tested but it's pretty high powered for what intended...as much as bike training is more fun with higher peered bikes

Its really just finding the right balance between the power of the bikes and the number of human shaped skid marks left on the barracks square during training.

Don't think they we're looking at the 1200 as its just slightly overkill to go from CB Bks to the Aras and back. F800GT would suffice and are used by police in a few countries already

AFAIK they do it’s the Special Delivery Service (SDS).

Only Tpt and Cav Corps can issue 154s so I’d say they do the Cav DR Cses

First question - AFAIK yes.
Second question - if they have instructors in house they can run a course. But maximising resources, instructors, etc., would probably mean they would jump in with the Bde Cav Sqn course. As Dev says, D ISTAR is tasked with motorcycle testing and issue of 154s in the DF...

BMW used to do an Agency only version of the R1200RT, with a 900cc engine. Not sure if it is still available, however lately they only seem to be offering, in Europe, the F800GT or R1200RT.
