Lads - do CIS have Dispatch riders in their Orbatts and do they do their own course or do they jump on Cav school courses?
First question - AFAIK yes.
Second question - if they have instructors in house they can run a course. But maximising resources, instructors, etc., would probably mean they would jump in with the Bde Cav Sqn course. As Dev says, D ISTAR is tasked with motorcycle testing and issue of 154s in the DF...
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
Ok then. The BMW 1200RT in unit being looked at wasn't a BMW 1200rt.
BMW used to do an Agency only version of the R1200RT, with a 900cc engine. Not sure if it is still available, however lately they only seem to be offering, in Europe, the F800GT or R1200RT.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
Noticed at the Easter commemoration earlier, the Presidents escort being tailed by a very un ceremonial 4x4 and enclosed trailer (not unlike a horsebox).
Surely reliability isn't becoming such an issue that a recovery vehicle following is considered appropriate?

Been that way for a very long time in case of a break down or someone comes off the bike. It used to be a bike trailer but they went for a horsebox not too long ago
I'm reminded of the Sanglas days when the escort would begin with 40 bikes and end with 20, but the Sandblaster was famously unreliable.
It demonstrates a huge lack of faith in both the bikes and those who keep them maintained, and the skills of the riders.
Is every FFR outing followed by a recovery vehicle?

Having been attached to the 2 CAV throughout the 90's, in the workshops, but not working on the bikes, I can assure you those bikes are maintained to a very high standard.
The problem is that the Escorts proceed at such a slow speed that control is very difficult, throw in the condition of Dublins roads and the problems caused by rain or oil on roads.
It is only prudent to have a couple of bikes and DRs on standby.
I did my 154 Test ride from the Brugha in 2008. I know exactly how well the bikes are maintained (I did the test on a 1989 ex EoH GT550).
I kave no issue with a sweeper following the escort, but this time it was so close it was almost part of it.
