  • They look lioke a bunch of Prussians Huzzars or something like that, It was not a bad idea that they got a new uniform but I think its gone a bit ovet the top ,The glengarry still looks cool in other uniform and 2nd motor flash was alawats one of the best looking, Ciomments as regards new uniforms equally apply to the army no 1 Band or whatever its called now a bit OTT, and dont get me started on the aide de camps and their gold curtain ropes , , are they lanyards??

Too late timmee teepee. I made the journey in 1998. Its a fantastic motorcycling road. Brought me down past the old kenmare viaduct.
And it will be a cold day in hell when I take any sort of advice, never mind motorcycling, from the likes of you.

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Its a return to the traditional dress uniform of the 1930s.

Which is based on that worn by officers in the 1930s.

                          • Nice to see that 2 Cav finally learned the correct shoulder for their Lanyards.

Uniform is derived from that which was suggested for the proposed return of a horse mounted Presidential escort which was being considered during the late eighties early 90s.
Huzzars Uniform is just that a Huzzars uniform with its own respective headgear, and doesn't resemble this uniform.
The old dress uniforms did not feature riding trousers, but a straight leg, although the high collar would be reflective of the period which could suggest that its a variation on the Bandsmans dress blue uniform.

But no doubt some will disagree with all this.. but then again the revival of the Horse mounted escort...only one trial uniform ever made and it vanished after the idea was muted. But I know it did exist as I know a guy who was selected for the unit had it been drawn up.
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

                            • I'm confused...

Is rhodes saying the Motorcycle uniform is not based on the old officers uniform of the 1930s, or the Band uniform is not based on the officers unifofm of the 1930s?

The motorcycle uniform is merely a practical interpretation of a standard motorcycle jacket, with ceremonial flair added, following the same pattern of the Bands new uniform. However, I am pretty sure(but am open to correction) that the Band do not wear body armour under their tunic....

The black box is more than likely a smart charger for battery maintenance as Goldie said.
Do I take it from this that the bikes are only used for Presidential escorts as these would not need to be on a smart charger if they are used regularly. The smart charger is great for the battery during long lay up periods.
When are the army bikes sold at auction. The 3 grand paid for the 98D is a bargain for a bike that was well serviced with low milage and you know the milage is genuine.
