2500?? thats biscuits!! Yeah my mate warned me away from the GS ones alright. Couple HSE ones in East. There used to be two in UCHG, but they were lying idle for something like 4 or 5 years under a dust sheet in the ambulance base. Terrible waste. Don't know what came of them. Pity, They were lovely machines. Got one or two runouts in the entire time. All thats left of them is an Arai helmet (mint with comms still in it) thats used for training purposes.

I know one of the Galway bikes(Paneuropean) was converted into a short wheelbase model soon after the user completed the Garda Advanced motorcycle course. Seems the powers lost interest after that in the whole paramedic on a bike idea.

Yeah it's a pity. Although hopefully with the roll out of Advanced paras and now the way the idiots in charge are talking about A+E closures, the bikes might make a reappearence soon.

It's been proven in London that they make a huge difference both in response time and and play a vital role in getting the patient treated within the 'Golden hour'

Came accross 1 x XS 400 & 3 x XS 500'S. They have no registration numbers on them & 2 look like they never had plates fitted, also speedo on one reads 00000 miles.

They are all in rough condition.

Hmm, Zero mileage speedo on old bike usually means new speedo.

I think you are confused about what an XS400 is.

The XS was the bike used by the Military Police and Presidential escort before the Kawasakis arrived.

By god that picture takes me back! Those bikes were being sold off when I first went to 2nd Field S&t after leaving the Apprentice school.

There were several that were sold as bare frames after being stripped while in the scrap yard. Amazingly the lads found all the parts after buying the frames for next to nothing.

memories. I did my DR course in 1995 on an XS400 (or was it XS500???) and the speedo reading was 9995 miles. A year later most were scrapped. What a waste. I'll bet that in these recessionary times, the Deauviilles will not be scrapped like the previous lot.

The deauvilles should definitely be going to auction. The Cav Corps have no other use for them, and the MPs are too posh to drive anything that doesnt have strobes.

However seeing as the MPs tend to crash a lot, maybe it would be in their best interest to commandeer a few deauvilles, and stick their beloved pointless bells and whistles on them? Better than nothing in these harsh times. The only other bikes in the pipeline are off roaders.

I thought it was previously stated on this site that the Army were not able to trade-in the old bikes?

Will the Deauvilles not be distributed the same way the Kawasaki bikes were when they retired from the Presidential Escort. Signals seemed to have a few scattered around Dublin, and I presume the rest of the country as well.

The last time out, it was the Kwak GT. Some ended up in Cav units, but are wholly unsuitable for that role, as they are expected to spend much of their time on at best, unpaved roads. I don't know if any CIS unit outside dublin use bikes, I know they have them in dublin for delivering important documents between government departments.

So in short I don't think there would be much use for them elsewhere.

Was wondering why the CIS would want bikes.

    because radios don't always work??

It once was very difficult to send written orders electronically. Now although possible some question the security.

Once upon a time Tpt also had bikes for dispatch and escourt duties.

I remember taking that photo. At the 10k...Long ago...

Nice sandblaster. Is it easy to start, or did you have to take flying lessons first?

The Green Deauvilles could be spotted on the news yesterday at the closing of Longford.

    Sorry about Longford

Sanglas it has been good so far but sh1t to go any where on
also added a KTM 350 ex sas one of 25 they aquired before the Great Kuwait to Bagdad Beach race ... must have been KTM's desert results..... They should have told them the racers were on four strokes. the speedo says 1245 KM and the CAST document only mentions 890 Ks but 22 SAS

    Thanks Gunner for the correction

I stand corrected, should have kept my mouth shut when it comes to motorbikes as everytime I open my mouth on them I step right into it.

But I do know that they were useless off road as you went on to prove.
