        Another visitor

        Took this photo today. Heres some infor on the ship:

        D'Estienne D'Orves class ASW corvettes
        Displacement: 1,250 tons full load
        Dimensions: 80 x 10.3 x 5.3 meters (262 x 34 x 17 feet)
        Propulsion: 2 diesels, 2 shafts, 11,000 bhp, 23.5 knots
        Crew: 105
        Radar: DRBV 52A air/surface search
        Sonar: DUBA 25
        EW: ARBR 16 intercept, 2 Dagaie decoy, SLQ-25 Nixie
        Armament: 1 ASW rocket launcher, 2 Exocet SSM, 1 100 mm DP, 2 20 mm,
        4 torpedo catapults
        Small ASW-oriented corvettes. Being gradually retired.

            It actually seemed to be "Premier-Maitre L'her". Fitted with 4 x .50cal (demountable, but carried in port) and some armour plate on each corner of the superstructure. Only carried 2 of it's 4 MM40 Exocets.

            Loire is a depot ship and is a regular Irish vistor. Senior officer was miffed I was taking picture of his ship. "Like duh! there are cutaway drawings on the internet!"

                Why are all of these ship here. Did they all just decide to come visit the emerald isle. Was this planned by our Navy or coinsidence?

                  Courtesy Visits by foreign naval ships Is an old tradition,and has been going on since the foundation of the state(I think A Japanese Destroyer visited Dublin in the 1920s).
                  At one time in Cork,at the same time we had a Dutch Frigate in Cobh,A soviet Destroyer at the custom House,and A US Frigate elsewhere on the City Quays.

                  Beliving this to be something sinister is just pure crustyism...
