    DEV.

Mugs, read through the thread from about page 49 onwards. Everything we know about the new vessel has been posted here.
I've been keeping an eye on this and the EPV thread for a while. Im still confused as to what is going on

      • I see on the STX Marine site under NEWS, a release about "STX Canada Marine reunites with Babcock Marine and Appledore Shipyards for new Irish OPV" and there is a CGI of their PV90 design for the NS:

The graphic with the unusual turret?

Have OTO Melara changed the turret style or is that the new type 57mm turret.

          • Looks like the 76mm Super Rapid.

            Note the TEU storage aft...

Can anyone spot any external array for a fire control radar?

There is a new "stealth" turret for the 76mm. It could be either that of the Bofors 57mm Mk3.

The graphic looks generic. It could be either.

It wouldnt be in the shipbuilders brief. It's provided after construction by the customer(if at all).

However it wouldn't be necessary, if an EOS is included.

The two surface search radars on the mast will be tied into the FCS. The FCS itself will be on the pedestal in front of the mast. Don't know if it'll be the same as fitted already, which is the Radamec 1500 FCS, it's big brother the 2500 FCS, or some other make.

I think the image may be laterally squashed somewhat.
                          Unsquashed attached.

                          • 76mm would make common sense even if the Mk3 57mm Bofors is an equal but less expensive option.

Cost of course will be under the usual scruitiny when the weapons fit comes under the micro scope.

I would assume the current PVs will be stripped of their Rhinos to fit out the P60s as they replace each other in service.

                            • The new OPVs appear to be a slightly upgraded and stretched Rosins... These two new OPVs are going to be excellent replacements...

There will be other subtle differences in machine gearing to reduce fuel consumption and increase in draught to make them more stable,
