But could it do it over any useful distance?
230 Sqn in NI pulled off a similar PR 'Stunt' a few years ago when one of their 330s lifted NIs first new style Range Rover for Charles Hurst and delivered it to the clients backyard. The only issue was that the entire engine block had to be removed to make the vehicle light enough for the mission to be completed.

PS: what's so politically inexpedient about getting Blackhawks?

Do those Italian AF 139s meet the GTTC checklist for deployability? Self Sealing tanks etc?

The Italian HH-139s have only been selected as the Air Forces SAR helicopter, and an interim one at that until the 149 comes on line. Combat SAR will be carried out by the HH-101.
So is the Italian HH-139 deployable, well yes, but so also is the AW-139 it just depends on where and in what role.

2 walterish questions...... Just curious is all...

Could with the addition of a harpoon/deck landing system & crash proof fuel tanks allow the 139s some ability to operate from eithne?

Would the AW139 even fit the hanger or on the pad?

Michael Collins: You've kept us waiting 700 years. You can have your seven minutes.

Michael Collins: So that's what all the bother was about.

Why does it need different tanks to the ones it has? They already operate to ships in the civvy world without a harpoon and I believe the pitch and roll limits are better than the 365. But sadly it would not fit in the hanger. And the blades don't fold. And probably a million other reasons too. Zee

You would also need an air crew that is not alergic to saltwater .
