If you were to create a new medal it would have to have seperate requirements to the old medal, ie someone with 3 years service in the FCA (ie joined in 2002) and 4 years service in the RDF would never get the FCA service medal, and would have to wait for 3 more years for a RDF service medal. Some old sweats would get 2 medals, while large numbers of people who joined from 1998 onwards would have to wait until they had up to 14 years service until they got any medal, and would effectively have as much as 6/7 years of their service (in the FCA) disregarded.

Alternatively, we could just keep the same medal and keep issuing it in the same manner. The RDF is a reorganised and rebranded FCA, not a compeltely new organisation.

The Dept & Military said a new medal with the inscription in Irish on the reverse would be struck nothing to do with RDFRA. The new RDF has no service medal as such and that's fact.
The Civil Defence have four medals and they fall under the Dept of Defence we are the poor relations

GOC, the RDF in its current form is in existence for 5 years

ASSUMING that the timelines will be the same for the award of the medal, bars, etc.,
will be the same (i.e; 7, 12, 21), then there are still two years to go before this becomes
        a factor...

            2 questions...
            1. can a member of the CD be a member of the RDF at the same time
            and
            2. if so, can said member wear the medals on the No.1 SD? (seeing as they were DoD medals too [ive been told])

seen it done but wasnt too sure it was supposed to be...
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I dont think you can be a member of both organisations at the same time-

however you do raise an interesting point

              Therefore

Can an ex member of the CD join the RDF and wear his medals

              - what medals do the CD get-
              Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
              The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
              Are full of passionate intensity.

I know a few people that are members of both organisations and the way the reserve is going the CD will be the only show in town

Does anyone have picture's of the PDF service medal and the service medal with bar? Also does anyone know where replacement service medals could be found? Trying to help out a retired member so any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I would suggest your first place to try would be the DF Canteen Board Shop in McKee Bks, although there is always E-Bay

E-bay was a washout. Do they sell them 'over the counter' in mckee?

Not sure but they do mount the medals and they used to sell the ribbons

COntact the Medal section in DFHQ

they will replace it- you have to write a report about losing it etc and pay a couple of quid

but normally the lads up there are very decent
