spot on Barry - any self respecting Green Jacket would never own a pair of magnificent highly polished ammo boots like those. while they are admittedly absolutely fantastic - this is as you rightly put it - the domain of the Foot Guards.

any pics of your parade boots then RGJ?

Also, which "light operational boot" do the BA use?
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I used to have a pair of ammo boots which weren't far off the above photo. Sold them for £100 when I left which was handy as I bought them for £30.
Took me weeks going at them with a blowtorch, black kiwi polish with a hint of blue and brown polish, a sylvette cloth and plenty of boxsets!

I started bulling the boots I was issued, the old school combat highs / parade boots, but I've given up on them as I suspect they'll get damaged on the next exercise, and will require exchanging for Magnums

ahh...so you don't have to use the entire goat !??
An army is power. Its entire purpose is to coerce others. This power can not be used carelessly or recklessly. This power can do great harm. We have seen more suffering than any man should ever see, and if there is going to be an end to it, it must be an end that justifies the cost. Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain

we use the standard 'Combat Assault Boots' in Temperate environments
I've got three pairs of these. Found them to be a great boot.Polish them and they'll last a life time.

I have a nice pair of 24bs bulled for inspections and for special occasions a pair of NS dress boots that will come up like patent leather when treated properly.

          But no more..all gathering dust.

MOD: The thread relates to the polishing of magnums, not the best boot for the ground or the Linkers (or equivalent). Search function!

I know a fella who polished his magnums and has them almost up to the standard of patent leather. I've no idea how he did it. He almost got in trouble on parade once because they thought he painted them or something.

Lads the Magnums are a Light op/Barrack boot. You dont need to see your face in em.A quick brush polish with normal Kiwi is fine.Bulling is for ceremonial boots.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
