That was the conversion of some Infantry cars into CRV's for the Cav. This upgrade is for the rest of the fleet.
I can confirm Paul's Info. The report on the proposed upgrade has been up on IKON for quiet some time now.As you can imagine that info was restricted so could not be posted here. The proposed changes are really going to bring us up to currrent standards.
Funny reading some of the more outlandish "will they, wont they" posts over the last while here though!

"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

Oireachtas.ie has it, apologies, I've two nine month old children on my hands and too busy to search for it.

                  • "With regard to the upgrade of the 80 armoured personnel carriers we have, which is original equipment provided by Mowag, there was a very long process followed within the organisation to bottom out on what was the most appropriate way of ensuring that armoured capability was available to the Defence Forces into the future. We had 80 of these vehicles starting back in 2003 I think and the outcome of all of that was that the nature of the work that was required to be done on the vehicles meant that we needed to deal, on a sole source basis, with the original equipment provider. That was the contract that we awarded shortly before Christmas to GDELS for the work to be done on our armoured personnel carriers."

                    • how many out of the original 80 are still fully operational?
"He is an enemy officer taken in battle and entitled to fair treatment."
"No, sir. He's a sergeant, and they don't deserve no respect at all, sir. I should know. They're cunning and artful, if they're any good. I wouldn't mind if he was an officer, sir. But sergeants are clever."

ya I was wondering about that too. The secretaries replies seem to suggest the answer is less than the original 80 but he wasnt pressed on the matter. IM also curious to know if explosive reactive armor will be included as part of the upgrade package and if any further vehicles will be upgraded to MRV standard. interesting and positive development nonetheless.

"What we are doing is up-armouring them, improving the protections against explosive ordinands, changing the weapon station and improving the manoeuvrability of them."

                          Also of note is

"There is a whole range of vehicles that we are procuring in the period ahead. " (he then went to on to specifically address the issue of the mowags and again no one pressed for details on this point. Although it could easily be armoured logistics vehicles.

If the turret did not interfere with troop seats, why would its deletion remove seats? The Mowags that came with RWS have the same number of seats as those with the one man turret.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.
