Hardly tried and tested. We don't need to be the first customer again.
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

But Italy might, if they feel like it, on a Hanger roof or somewhere.

          Se posso essere disturbato.......................
The 76mm Sovraponte is a new weapon system, being designed by Oto Melara, for Installation on a new series of ships, on high structure platforms such as hangar roof. The gun will be 40% lighter than the gun with through deck loader. The loader will be contained within the turret and will use current smart ammunition. Knocking the gun and the Italian navy is a bit premature. They are engaged on a 5 billion Euro, fleet renewal plan.

So multipurpose that it's going to be doing BMD as well it seems:
The Italian Navy (Marina Militare) will get Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) capability in 2024 with the delivery of its first PPA (Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura or Offshore Multipurpose Patrol Ship) vessel in the "Full" configuration. Captain Francesco Gennaro Esposito, Italian Navy General Staff (MARISTAT 7°) future vessels ship design and CMS department, confirmed the information to Navy Recognition during a recent visit at the Leonardo naval test and integration facility near Rome.

              • So the MOD has decided to fund the retention of the Batch 1's (about £13 million) in case of a hard Brexit situation, makes sense really though I wonder where the RN will find the crews from if they do end up having to keep all 3 in service after all?

                • In last months issue of Warships an article on the BRN paints a picture of equipment from ships that have arrived back into port being stripped out in order to bolt on the next ship being sent out. Same with the subs

The Ministry of Defence has announced a £160 million contract with BAE Systems to update the power and propulsion system fitted to the Royal Navy's Type 45 destroyers.

RN is stumping up UK£ 160m to fix the Type 45s (which haven’t been right since they were delivered)

I thought that program had started before now?

BRN? If you mean the RN, then yeah depending on what it is there are swaps happening Harpoon and Phalanx for example, nothing to be done about it at this stage given all the issues that the RN now face.

Radar systems? That seems a bit much for swapping out? Are you sure in wasn't in regards to the 23/26 swaps when they are being built? I read they've had to order 3 new sets for the 26 to handle the program.

                            • Have the article here now. Surface Search Radar taken off ships going into maintenance and put on ship deploying.
£6,700 circuit card assembly for torpedo launch system swapped 26 times across 12 type 23 ships.
MoD to save money only ordered incomplete technical documentation for the Type 45s which made parts IDing and maintenance a nightmare
