I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Update on the PLCE. All the PLCE is to be shredded.Even though some of it was never on a soldiers back.Along with old type helmets and CBA.IPLCS to be issued on a pool basis to each RDF Inf Coy(I presume the same will apply in CS and CSS RDF sub units).Only enough sets of IPLCS to equip enough RDF personnel for courses etc not a one for everyone in the unit initially.I was informed the reason they are shredding the Bergens is because they are not height adjustable so should not be used by shorter personnel(anti-claim device) and the newer height adjustable bergans cant be used with belt order.
So IPLCS is coming in for RDF.
"Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.
Any chance anyone could grab a couple of plce pouches for me? Specifically water bottle and utility?

So what are they supposed to wear for APWTs and tactical/fieldcraft training?

Why shred when you could potentially sell some of it through army surplus type shops? Surely the cost of shredding, in resources and money would be negated by selling as much as possible. Or selling the kit in bulk to online sellers or Irish militaria specialists at a knock down price!?
