    • Love the ACMAT. Still think we should invest in the Panhard PVP with WASP RWS [on some] as replacement for some Pajeros, especially with a hard Brexit border coming down the road. Great little vehicles , loads of room unlike the current SUVs, and great along the 'back roads'.

      • I think the reason for vehicles like Pajero in the first place as atcp. Canvas tilt land rover weren't suitable for long distance cit or prison escort. However it appears that the Ford ranger is doing much of the liaison work once done by the patrol or pajero. So it's time to return to a military type all terrain car. Not necessarily armoured. Not even armed. Just a baseline all terrain vehicle that can carry at least 4 fully equipped troops from a to b at home or overseas.
Is that too much to ask?
For now, everything hangs on implementation of the CoDF report.

          Yes.
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Looks rather like the current LTAV in service
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"

Just costs less, is about half the weight and has over 1000 models in service, so is not a bespoke vehicle, so there might be less issues.
What are you cackling at, fatty? Too much pie, that's your problem.

              • I seem to recall quite differing opinions about the Acmat when the DF had them; some people loved them, others hated them and some of that dislike was down to simple snobbery; ie, that lot have them and we don't,etc,etc.......does anyone know? are they any good?

                • Well the drivers cab in a lot of cases was a soft top roof designed for Africa (not typical Irish weather) that could have had something to do with it

                        • "Unit cost ~$760,000" versus whatever we bought each Pajero for

                          • Panhard PVP currently retails at 167,000 Euro... not too shabby.

                              • They have served the French well across Mali, Niger and Chad. They proved very effective in the narrow streets of Iraqi and Afghani towns where larger, albeit better armoured, MRAPS couldn't manoeuvre. They have proved themselves in combat and mechanically across very inhospitable terrain and climates. The French ordered another 240 recently.

Only a suggestion. They may not be suitable for our needs but no harm in testing them.
