"Chief of Staff of the Irish Defence Forces Vice Admiral Mark Mellett DSM briefed the 190 men and women of the 51st Infantry Group in the Glen of Imaal, Co Wicklow, before their deployment to Lebanon.
He stated that;
"The security environment all over the world and in particular Europe is becoming hugely complex. We see it in terms of the massive movement of refugees mainly coming from Syria. The lesson learnt from my time out there and with the 49th, is the massive role you will play in securing a safe and secure environment, a human right for every man, woman and child. So it is in our national interest, in the interest of the citizens of Lebanon and the interests of the million plus Syrian refugees that have moved into Lebanon, that you succeed in your task.""
There are currently 350 Irish Defence Forces personnel deployed to the Middle East and some of these soldiers have sent home Valentine's messages for their loved ones...
'He died who loved to live,' they'll say,
'Unselfishly so we might have today!'
Like hell! He fought because he had to fight;
He died that's all. It was his unlucky night. http://www.salamanderoasis.org/poems...nnis/luck.html
I see the film cut out just before the IFV ran over the lamb...
