The SS Isolda was sunk with the loss of 6 lives by German aircraft. She was a lighthouse tender owned by the Commissioners of Irish Lights. She sank en route to the Coninbeg light-vessel. Her Captain was Alan Bestic who had been Third Officer on the Lusitania when she was struck by a torpedo off Kinsale in 1915.
