  • Light Helicopters in Macedonia

I was interested to note the use of Belgian and Italian light helicopters in the observation liaison role as part of the EU mission to Macedonia.
I accept fully that Medium lift helicopters are the most valuable rotary wing asset for the air corps at the moment, but do these events put the possibility of deploying suitably equipped light helicopters overseas in a similar role?
(It should be noted that it's rather a shorter trip from Italy to Macedonia than it would be for any Irish deployments, anywhere).

Portugal sent alouette III to East Timor, so yep, there is a role, byt there has to be the equipment first, and the need to move troops by air is important in any modern army. .
