Am not saying that its not true but I was looking on the DoD website and there was a speach to RACO from smith last year saing that the government was going to lease the S-61 for three years starting early next year

of course i would not be surprised if this was another DoD cock up

if you want to see the speach click on the link

                from the tenders site

Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, acting on behalf of the Minister for Communications, Marine and natural Resources invites tenders for the Provision of aircraft and experienced crew for aerial remote sensing to search and detect pollution at sea and to direct counter pollution operations, and to fly search and rescue (SAR) sorties in support of Irish Coast Guard's other functions.
DURATION OF THE CONTRACT OR TIME LIMIT FOR COMPLETE
Starting 01/07/2004 and/or ending 30/06/2009, With the possible extension for any period up to a further two years. The successful service provider may be permitted to commence the service earlier than 01/07/2004 but the ability to do so will not be part of the award critera.

Thats a different contract. Thats the Coastguard one, currently held by CHC Scotia.

Its not a CHC contract.Thats a tender for a fixed wing aircraft by the looks of things.None of CHC's contracts are due for renewal next year!!! as far as i'm aware.

Hmm..how right you are,on further reading..are they now trying to contract out the CASA's job? Or maybe give the casa some incentive to do more?

air Atlantique provide the service in the UK and are quite good at it.The reduction in these roles should allow the Air Corps to get on with some more military activities....such as training and flying ministers around the place( joke)

Has the Casa any pollution control equipment?

Like a bucket on a rope perhaps, the only state assets equipped for pollution control as far as I know (I'm not a maritime person) are the Celtic explorer and its Planned? sister ship and even those are supposed to be wholly inadequate.
