Video shows fighter pilot’s last-minute escape

Dramatic video has emerged of a crash that destroyed an RAF Harrier jet in Kandahar last year.

The jet’s unnamed pilot escaped with only minor injuries after he ejected from his flaming aircraft as it careened across the runway of the Afghan base in May of 2009.

The video, which emerged on the Internet this week, shows the pilot waiting a full 13 seconds to eject after his plane rammed into the ground in a crash landing.

The pilot came in too steep, you can see him try and pull up just before impact, he only ejected after the flames started to surround the canopy. He probably left ejecting so late as he may have taught the worse was over and not the risk the massive trauma you can receive while ejecting or he was just stunned and it took time to eject. Either way, very lucky man.
Don't stand there GAWPING, like you've never seen the hand of God BEFORE!!

See how short a length of time he spent in the air under a developed canopy? that's pretty close to zero-zero there.Another good save for Martin-Baker.

          Hi there,
Destroying one of HM's jets is not guaranteed to end one's career. If it was his fault,he might get moved sideways to count blankets or be compelled to quit due to loss of medical. If not, he'll be back airborne before too long.
