  • Pte Seamus Maguire 28 Bn

    I attended the funeral of Pte Seamus Maguire today in Co. Donegal. A private in Finner Camp I first met in 1990 and have spoken to him nearly every time I visited Finner. A great friend to all visitors especially the FCA and the RDF and well known for his little catch phrase. "I'm Seamus from C Company"

    Go dtabhairfidh Dia aire dhuit anois, agus go mbeidh tu ar a lamh dheis ar neamh.

        RIP

        I never met this comrade- but I had heard about him and his freindly and helpful ways-
        Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
        Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
        The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
        The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
        The best lack all conviction, while the worst
        Are full of passionate intensity.

                Was known as famous Seamus, a gentleman of the highest order.

                Rest in Peace
                I knew a simple soldier boy.....
                Who grinned at life in empty joy,
                Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
                And whistled early with the lark.

                In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
                With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
                He put a bullet through his brain.
                And no one spoke of him again.

                You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
                Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
                Sneak home and pray you'll never know
                The hell where youth and laughter go.

                  What good is in youth when it's ageing what joy are in eyes that cant see when there's sorrow in sunshine and flowers and only our rivers run free.

                      I knew him personally from my time in

                      "C" Company, 28th Bn, Finner Camp,

                      inclined to be a wee bit headstrong,

                      but, a great character always did his duties,

                      and always willing to help out.

                      May he + Rest In Peace +

                      Sympathy & Condolences to his Family, Friends & Comrades.
