Indeed fair dues to them. Though in fairness their craft is a tarted up Soyuz, a 40 yr old design.

It's also a pity their TV announcer wasn't in a particularly original humour during the programme covering the launch:

"If these were small steps, then now we are taking a giant leap into space,"

Nothing wrong with the Soyuz series, they have a very reliable track record. And isnt the shuttle design about 40 years old aswell?

It is, but the Shuttle design is inheardently good but in practice as we have seen it kinda has a tendcy to blow up.

The shuttle design dates back to the mid 70's , so that'd be 30 years. It entered service at the beginning of the 80s.

The soyuz on the other hand has been in service since the 60's. Fair enough it gets people up and down, but is too limited for anything else, unlike the shuttle.

Thats true but there has been two accidents in 22 years, how many launches did the shuttle have since its first flight? Must be over a hundred
