Interesting side piece on Wiki regarding the Mowag Duro in Irish service:

"The DURO II 6X6 has been in service with the Irish Army since 2004 in two variants; a mobile workshops vehicle for armourers and an armoured EOD vehicle (shown in the picture).
The DURO II is has been shown not to be the most reliable vehicle on service with the Irish Army; although when the vehicle is serviceable it is very capable especially off road. Both variants have shown themselves to be prone to electrical faults and the armoured variant is too heavy for the vehicles suspension and braking system. In service with the Irish Army in Kosovo the vehicles have frequently been off the road for long periods at a time since two of them were deployed there in 2006 in order to support one IEDD team, typically speaking one team would only need one EOD vehicle but given the problems with the DURO II it was felt necessary to deploy two in order to maintain operational capability. This would seem to be mainly due to the long lead time for parts from the manufacturer and the aforementioned issues arising from the suspension and braking system not being able to handle the extra load of the armour. German troops have also reported similar reliability problems with DURO trucks in service with the German Army."

Now we all know that Wikipedia is user edited(the reason both the text and a link are provided), so would this be a fair assessment of the vehicle?

I would have though it only prudent to deploy two vehicles overseas, given the specialist nature and regardless of type.

we have the Duro too - i think we have about 200 of them, and any lad i have spoken to about it said it's a pretty decent kit - i've not heard of reliability problems although i have heard we are prone to overloading them and expecting too much from them too. maybe the manufacturer stated load limits have been exaggerated but we should have sorted this out at the T&D stage.

i guess it's a pretty good vehicle considering it is made out of Lego.

        What a non- statement.

Can you clarify as to how a machine breaking down is a contract issue please?
        But there's no danger

Lack of spares, tech support, training ?

If it's that bad, then you need to get a manufacturer's tech rep on site and point out the faults; some faults are soldier-induced and some are manufacturer-induced and you need to deal with them appropriately.

Remember the Piranhas has issues initially also with armour?

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

what?! that's blasphemy! i'm not having a bad word said against them precious Piranhas!

only joking, everything has teething problems and so long as there was one of them on the road all the time and the other one was on the road most of the time then i'd say this might be over exaggerated. maybe there was not the specialist experience out there to maintain them but it's difficult to train so many for so few.

The problem with the Piranhas was sorted out under warranty (the armour was cracking).
