    The Irish Navy-The Dubliners..

Chorus: The ClĂona the Maev and the Macha
The pride of the Irish navy
When the captain he blows on his whistle
All the sailors go home for their tea

While the army is off in the Congo
In Cyprus or some foreign parts
Our navy is strained to the limits
    Deploying its nautical acts
One day from the Russian invader
    Defending our very own fish
We found it was just the red herring
From the signals we got from the Kish

    (Chorus)

Each year they go on manoeuvres
To prepare for defence they are keen
Sometimes it's the Lakes of Killarney
More often the pond in the green
The canal it could be of assistance
In defending our own holy ground
    But due to proposed legislation
We'll have to sail all the way round

    (Chorus)

    We are a seafaring nation
Defence of our land is a right
We fight like the devil all morning
Provided we're home by the night

    (Chorus)

Catch-22 says they have a right to do anything we can't stop them from doing.

Hey Goldie since you seem to be so interested in the musical side to the NS....heres a little challenge for you.

Back in 1985 the crew of the L.E .Grainne commanded by Geno Ryan published a mini year book. On the back page was a song relating to the ship which was to be sung to the melody of Christy Moores Lisdoonvarna......now come up with a copy of that and I might even think you are brilliant....I had a copy of it years ago but alas it vanished.
Covid 19 is not over ....it's still very real..Hand Hygiene, Social Distancing and Masks.. keep safe

Here is the riposte written by someone in the early 70's. It was sung to the air of Garryowen (the marching song of the U.S 7th. Cavalry)

We sailed Corvette's for twenty years,
we stood the public's jokes and jeer's,
we disregard their laughs and sneers,
for we are the Irish Navy.

This rocky coast we sail around,
from Malin to the Blasket Sound,
where ere the poacher may be found,
there you'll find the Irish Navy.

But now we sail a smaller ship,
and soon one Dutchman made a slip,
it was the Fola on a trip,
on patrol for the Irish Navy.

So come all you men like Ronnie Drew,
        we're doing a job you could'nt do,
and if you sailed on 02,
you would'nt slag the Irish Navy.
