my family and i are headed to Diggerland - free entry for soldiers and their families today, followed by a nice carvery lunch at Crown Carvery - again free for soldiers.
All the best to our brothers across the sea! "East Paddies"
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.
In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.
You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

Nice one...
"Well, stone me! We've had cocaine, bribery and Arsenal scoring two goals at home. But just when you thought there were truly no surprises left in football, Vinnie Jones turns out to be an international player!" (Jimmy Greaves)!"
On the week of Armed Forces Day the below entry could be found on ARRSE (21.06.2011). The fact that it appeared at all is a very sad reflection on the soldier concerned. Most of us on here who have had experience of, knowing and working with members of the British Army will know that this is fortunately not representative of a fine and decent body of men and women.
The brutal and horrific circumstances of the murder of a decent young Danish girl in Cyprus should in no circumstances be treated like this. It besmirches the uniform.
steady on smudge!
just because i am a Green Jacket - doesn't mean i am limited to digging shallow graves and burying a bit of Danish.
we were invited to have the Rifles Serjeants Mess Summer Ball in the Houses of Parliament which was something out of the ordinary for us and turned out to be a fantastic evening and we were well hosted.
and on the same day - FREE travel for all Regular and Reserve members of the Armed Forces across London (all Zones on Tube, Train, Bus, DLR etc) was granted to us on a permanent basis.
still plenty going on, with Aldershot being the hub of military activity for the week.
