admin panel removed, but in the 2 x closed mag pouches on the left i have my 5.56 Speed Loader, Gun Oil, RCK, Leatherman and Maglite.

3 x QR mag pouches then a decent Medkit.

its perfect for range work and mobile ops.

Predator 45l patrol pack (canoe bag inside) with Camelbak, poncho / stretcher, bivi bag, entrenching tool, gore-tex jacket, softee jacket and trousers (sometimes), Underarmour, spare socks and foot powder, paracord, head torch, metal mug, brew kit and hexi.

ammo, rations and batteries get thrown in there too as required.

there is a lot i haven't mentioned but that's the jist of it.

does the job for what i need it for. i can add a belt and more pouches if need be.

that's how it is now, but 15 years ago - that would have been a very different story indeed.

Maybe there should also be a thread for tips and constructive critisism of the kit posted here?

By the way I'm posting this from an iPhone so I'm sorry if it comes out all arse about face.

Updated 20/8/12 - Still need to work on this but it's coming along. It's just one more evolution of my kit

I'll post what works for me after the upcoming assessments
I knew a simple soldier boy.....
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum,
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
And no one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

                  OK! just back!

                  Smock:

Top right: KFS, Waterproof matches, some rations
Top left: Swiss army knife, sweets
                  Bottom right: Gloves, cam cream
                  Bottom left: Bush hat

                  Day Sack:

Top pocket: GPMG Ammo + belts (I was MAG gunner)
Main Compartment: Wet Gear/Smock, Water, Metal mug, more ammo
Front: Hexi cooker (gas stoves are great but the hexi does the job too!!)
Right: Cam cream remover, some rations
                  Left: Some rations

                  PLCE:

Left side: Ammo pouches (unused this time)
                  Water
Middle: Scrim scarf, head torch, spare batteries, mossie net, Peltors
Right: Small med kit (plasters, blister covers, space blanket and mossie repellent)

That's the lot. Basic as hell but for the 24 hours, this + bergan was absolutely spot on. I moved the wet gear to the bergan along with some extra hexi tabs, waterproof matches and the remainder of the rations. Also included in the bergan was sleeping system, sweets, bungies and tent pegs!
