    EUTM Somalia now actually in Somalia (at least part of it)

    Word I heard is that the Irish are now training the MPs

    When the mission started Mick Beary set it up and ran it well, MB is the best Officer the DF has ever produced, when the Western Brigade was disbanded the DF found they had a spare clown in Ger Aherne so what could they do but replace the best and most inspirational Oficer (Mick Beary) with a Aherne.

    The DF is going to be an amazing place when the likes of Beary and Mellet are running it.
    Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
    Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
    The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere***
    The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
    The best lack all conviction, while the worst
    Are full of passionate intensity.

        Lets just say FP is not a problem
        "Let us be clear about three facts. First, all battles and all wars are won in the end by the infantryman. Secondly, the infantryman always bears the brunt. His casualties are heavier, he suffers greater extremes of discomfort and fatigue than the other arms. Thirdly, the art of the infantryman is less stereotyped and far harder to acquire in modern war than that of any other arm." ------- Field Marshall Wavell, April 1945.

          Dont push yr luck on this one. Force protection in Somalia is always a challenge and will continue to be for the forseeable future. Even in places that are relatively calm such as Somaliland , In places such as Mog, Kismayo , Baidoa there is a constant danger of of suicide bombers. The danger of a blue on blue attack from a kat chewing local militia , soldier etc is always there. I hope the guys remain safe.

            I think the lads will be OK.Plenty of experience gained by some very professional soldiers when we where there the last time.Thanks for your concern though.

              They started the training in Mogadishu in February (they seem to be focussing on train the trainer and the strategic level now).

              The current mandate runs out in March 2015.

                    ? We're out of the training element completely aren't we?

                    The CIED is long gone isn't it?
